On Monday, May 26, 2025, American Legion Post 63 and the City of Winter Garden hosted a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Memorial Day. This patriotic event took place in Veterans Memorial Park and was led by David Kassander, Commander of the American Legion Post 63. Keynote speakers included District 11’s Congressman – Daniel Webster, the Mayor for the City of Winter Garden – John Rees, and the reigning Ms. Veteran America – Cassandra Guzman. American Legion members, friends, and family honored outgoing Post 63 Commander Kurt Gies on July 14, 2024, at Cariera’s restaurant. During the “Passing of the Gavel” event, Kurt was praised for his seven years of leadership and thanked for his tireless work. Kurt has agreed to stay on as an Executive Board Committee member. Kurt was a pleasure to work with. David Kassander (1st Vice Commander) has been elected as the Post 63's new Commander.
