On Saturday, March 21, 2026, the Honor Guard of American Legion Post 63 proudly participated in a memorial service honoring local Winter Garden resident and U.S. Army Veteran Richard Bishop, age 74. As part of this solemn tribute, members of the Honor Guard performed a ceremonial flag folding to recognize Mr. Bishop’s faithful service to our nation and to provide comfort and dignity to his family and loved ones.
The Honor Guard tradition remains one of the most sacred responsibilities carried out by the American Legion. Through the presentation and folding of the American flag, we honor the sacrifices, dedication, and patriotism of those who wore our nation’s uniform. We believe that every veteran deserves to be respectfully memorialized as they cross over to the “Post Everlasting.”
American Legion Post 63 encourages surviving family members of local military veterans to reach out if they would like an Honor Guard detail to participate in a future memorial service. This complimentary service is both our privilege and our duty to help ensure that no veteran is forgotten and that their service is remembered with honor and gratitude.
