One of the four pillars of the American Legion is Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, and the importance of this cannot be understated. Orange County alone has approximately 210 homeless veterans, with 40% of them living without shelter (according to the Homeless Services Network of Central Florida). Therefore, we have prioritized direct investments to help with this cause.
We are proud to say that American Legion Post 63 donated $2,000 directly to Matthew’s Hope Ministries, which serves the homeless men, women, and children of our community. Matthew’s Hope has 14 transitional housing units, which are available to those who are willing to earn their way toward a life of independence and self-sustainability. They also have a food pantry, and meals are donated to serve all guests on outreach days (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Their main outreach center is located at 611 Business Park Blvd., Winter Garden, FL 34787. We hope to continue in these philanthropic efforts in the future, with the vision of one day ending homelessness for our military veterans.
