District 6 (of the Department of Florida American Legion) serves veterans in Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. Throughout the year, the location of their quarterly meeting rotates among the posts within the district. The purpose of American Legion district meetings is to serve as a bridge between individual posts and the state (or "department") level, providing a platform for administrative governance, official business, and communication. These meetings are used to elect district officers, conduct administrative tasks, disseminate information on programs and new issues, and ensure all members are aligned on department and national goals. This past quarter, Post 63 was honored to host the event.
The District 6 Commander, Dave Musser, led the meeting with the following VIPs in attendance: Jim Ramos (NEC Florida), Jessica Moore (Department of Florida Commander), Bruce Carl (Department of Florida 2nd Vice Commander), Edward Flakowski (Eastern Area ALR Chair), and Daryl Bass (Past Eastern Area Commander). Some key highlights from the meeting include:
District 6’s membership renewal is currently trending +0.74% ahead of the state’s renewal.
Required Service Officer training will take place at the Fall Conference (21-23 November 2025).
Post 347’s Color Guard won two first-place awards at the National Convention and was named The American Legion Color Guard of the National Commander.
The next District 6 meeting will be held on 06 December 2025 at Post 35 (Mount Dora, FL) at 1000.
The District 6 Picnic will take place on 22 March 2026 from 1200 to 1700. It will be held in Tavares, FL.
